The goal of this far-reaching overhaul of the accreditation process was to reflect the growing role of film festivals in the film industry. The most significant changes include:
- Consolidating the previous system of four categories into a single category and list.
- Eliminating distinctions based on format, genre, or curation style in program planning.
- Supporting the assessment of quality and reliability standards through evaluations by experts in the film festival sector.
- An annual overview of a film festival’s contribution to promoting film production and the industry, using quantitative and qualitative data.
To ensure transparency and to serve as a useful resource, the key facts and figures for all accredited festivals are made publicly available on the FIAPF website.
On this basis, six new film festivals have been added to the list of accredited festivals:
- Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival (Armenia)
- Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (Canada)
- Hot Docs (Canada)
- Annecy International Animation Film Festival (France)
- Herceg Novi Montenegro Film Festival (Montenegro)
- Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival (Spain)
The FIAPF list now includes 49 film festivals from 29 countries and five continents, with 4 million attendees, 6,700 screenings, and more than 111,000 industry professionals in 2025.
