Given the individualization and fragmentation of our society, it is primarily cities with large single populations, such as Munich, that are increasingly characterized by isolation and loneliness. Digital communication and the intensity of media consumption are replacing face-to-face interactions, and AI-powered assistants and social bots are taking the place of real friendships. In light of these developments, social cohesion in urban communities is coming under increasing pressure. The loss of trust and solidarity is fueling isolation and withdrawal. Against this backdrop, we need opportunities to bring people together and foster a sense of community. Targeted neighborhoods also make it possible for encounters to turn into exchanges, for exchanges to turn into reunions, and for reunions to turn into relationships. This is the approach taken by the 10-day open-air cinema tour across Munich, featuring films by Munich-based filmmakers and their perspectives on Munich.
