When the Filmstadt München e.V. association was founded almost 40 years ago, its goal was to promote generally neglected areas of non-commercial, non-profit and diverse film culture. Today, urban society has changed greatly, becoming more diverse and fragmented. At the same time, film remains the cultural sector that enjoys the highest appeal among all segments of the population and is thus a guarantor of cultural participation.
But two years after the pandemic, completely new and unexpected challenges arise, exacerbating existing imbalances such as cramped public spaces and economic pressures. At a symposium, the basis is to be created for an exchange process with other organizations and actors in Munich’s (film) cultural landscape.
In addition, the new publication Film Festivals: Crises, Opportunities, Perspectives will be presented.
